The design firm STUDIO V has unveiled plans for a hyper-modern take on the porte cochère at the Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway in upstate New York.
The structure features a sweeping 300-foot curved facade that reaches over 45 feet in height in front of a newly landscaped courtyard. When completed the new entrance way will be the largest of its kind in North America. Moreover, installation will take a mere two weeks thanks to shop-fabricated components that will be erected on site.
“At Yonkers Raceway, we set out to re-invent the modern casino. Our design features a four-story high arc of frameless glass that projects the energy of the casino onto the building exterior, and brings the landscape and architecture into the gaming hall,” Jay Valgora, the principal and founder of STUDIO V, said in a statement. “The facade forms a backdrop for a sculptural porte cochère utilizing exotic structural systems and innovative materials.” –Christopher Cameron
