A salad-and-juice bar based out of Washington, D.C. with plans to take on the New York City market has inked a 10-year lease for 2,943 square feet of retail space, marking its first location in Brooklyn.

Sweetgreen, which serves make-your-own salads and organic cold-pressed juice, has moved in to 160 North Fourth Street, between Bedford and Driggs Avenue, The Real Deal was told exclusively. Asking rent for the space was $100 per square foot, according to a statement from Lee & Associates, which represented the landlord in the lease.

Peter Brause, Peter Levitan, Garry Steinberg and JP Sutro of Los Angeles-based commercial brokerage Lee represented the owners of the building, RedSky Management and Waterbridge Capital. Jacqueline Klinger of the Shopping Center Group represented the tenant.

“This location is a real coup for a fast-growing restaurant chain with such a loyal health-conscious following,” said Braus in the release. “It places the organic eatery … in the heart of one of the hottest retail neighborhoods in Brooklyn.”

RedSky and Waterbridge bought the plot of land in 2012 for $66 million and developed the nearly 72,000-square-foot mixed-use building that Sweetgreen is moving into, as The Real Deal previously reported. The space is located directly across from a soon-to-open Whole Foods grocery store the Cayre family and Alex Adjmi built at 242 Bedford Avenue.  – Angela Hunt
