Rendering of 100 Barrow Street in Greenwich Village

WEEKENDEDITION The Landmarks Preservation Commission has rejected the Church of St. Luke in the Fields’ proposal for a 15-story residential tower in Greenwich Village.

The church had planned to construct a 70,000-square-foot residential rental building at 100 Barrow Street, part of an entire block St. Luke owns. However, the LPC rejected the plans, citing the building’s height and arguing that the design would not fit with the character of the neighborhood, according to Curbed.

The LPC called the designs by Beyer Blinder Belle unnecessarily “fussy” and noted that the building had ‘bland’ brick articulation. The commission also rejected a proposal for a two-story rooftop addition to the neighboring St. Luke’s School on similar grounds. [Curbed] Christopher Cameron
